Welcome to the new Norbeary Fabrics Website

New stock of vintage mohair , hand dyed mohair and specials
4th May 2008

We are Barbara and Andy Cunningham and in April 2007 we took over Norbeary Fabrics from Ralph and Gloria Norbury who started the business back in 1992. We aim to maintain the standards of service, courtesy and friendliness that Ralph and Gloria were famous for. Ralph and Gloria will concentrate on their first loves, their wonderful teddy bears and juvenilia as well as having more time to spend with their children and grandchildren. To ensure that we continue in the Norbeary tradition they have made Private Norbeary for us and put him in charge. He's a very strict and demanding task master, he makes sure that we get the orders off in time and in military fashion, he's a stickler for precision, timeliness and good manners. As you can see from the photo below he is a little vain and insisted that he be made our logo, we were happy to oblige, after all he is a rather handsome chap, although you shouldn't let him know.

Private Norbeary, handsome devil aren't I?

We have been making bears professionally since 1990 and as hobbyists for many years before that (Barbara made her first bear when she was about 8). We have made bears in a wide variety of styles from long snouted traditional bears, through some wild and raggedy fellows to the multi coloured characters we make today. We've always had a great love of mohair in all it's colours, textures and finishes, every bit of mohair is crying out for a bear to be made from it, and the occasional rabbit or dragon.

On the new website (when it's complete) you will find details of all our mohair, kits, patterns and other items for all sorts of bear maker. We provide top quality mohair from Germany (mostly from Schulte), England (we still have some mohair from Nortons) as well as new sources in South Africa. We have tried to divide the mohair into collections that reflect the type of teddy bears that you can make from it, as quite a lot of the mohair can be used in a variety of ways it will often be found in more than one group. So that people can see how the mohair looks when it's made up, we would love to receive photos of your bears to include on the website, so please fell free to email or post us some photos.

We attend a great many fairs up and down England and Wales, plus the occasional fair in Germany, we always have additional oddments at the fairs as well as as many of the mohairs on the website as we can fit into our allocated space, so please check our fair dates, see if we're coming to a town near you and pop along and see us and the mohair in the fur. If you live near us (Hythe in Kent) or you're passing our way, maybe on the way to Dover, why not give us a call (to make sure we're home) and come and see us.

Anyway, rather than going on and on please use the links on the left to explore the website, we hope you enjoy it and find what you're looking for, please let us have any suggestions, we look forward to hearing from you.
